Community Defenders of Health Rights – Walter Flores, CEGSS- Guatemala

With initiatives of Center for the Study of Equity and Governance in Health Systems (CEGSS) and toehr partner organisations in Guatemala, community people have attempted to use Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) for negotiation of health rights. A total of 42 women and 23 men participated in the previous year in the process of learning basic ethnographic and audiovisual techniques. The result of this process was the production of several videos, radio programs, photo-essays and bulletins. The Community Defenders of the Right to Health produced a total of 5 bulletins, 5 radio programs, 4 photo-essays and 19 videos. This material was collected in 24 municipalities belonging to 5 different provinces of Guatemala. The audiovisual material focuses on lack of infrastructure; lack of drugs, health personnel and emergencyand contains evidence of transport that affect rural families.
